Default What was your first RPG?

So, which one was it? Mine was SSI`s Pool of radiance on C64 back in the days when Data Storage was still producing those large 5.25" floppy disks for general public.. Man what a blast that game was.. Spent so many hours playing it and i still remember it so well.

Phantasie and Bard's Tale

Though I am sure I played a couple much earlier than that on the TRS-80 we had, but I can't for the life of me remember the names of them.

Phantasie is one of the best RPG's I played. Mostly because I REALLY enjoyed having "Weird" races instead of just plain old human. My favorite character was an Ogre Thief whom I named "Ripmoff". He didn't just pick pockets, he took your pockets....with your leg!

Was good times, good times.

Pokemon counts? No? Then Sailor Moon on SNES. Or some other ancient console which was popular in the post-communistic Poland.

If THAT doesn't count (no idea, why not... sure I only made it to the second area, but still...), I played Pokemon on my GBC and my first actual PC game was Diablo. Then Diablo 2, Baldur's Gate 2 (didn't like it) then Neverwinter Nights (loved it despite having a PC too weak for that game)... and lots of RPGs, including some great ones on NDS.

Btw, anyone has a nice, long and interesting RPG for SNES? I'm sick currently with the flu, and I just finished Dawn of Sorrow and The World Ends With You. I could use another long-ass game.

Why wouldn't Pokemon count? I had Blue version on GBC and I actually catched em' all (151, including Mew)! I loved it.
Well, my first PC RPG was Morrowind. Never liked it, cause I couldn't understand english back then...

As far as I can remember, Pool of Radiance was my first RPG too - albeit on the Amiga.

God, those Gold Box games were awesome for their time!

hmmm.....I remember playing a game on the computers in college---an old leading edge if my memory is working today. It was very primitive (see pong)... you were in a dungeon of somekind---and you had to kill things along the way to the end (never got that far)...you threw things at them, I remember a place called the 'bazaar' where you got the sandbags or whatever to throw at the ogres? No idea what the game was called, and when I mean primitive I mean you were a letter on the computer....you moved with the arrow keys (no mouse) and the rooms, you, the enemies were all just 2d (the enemies had different letters)....it was b/w only....have the map here still somewhere (probably in my college folders box)....you must remember that was like 1985. or 86? long time ago. Spent hours playing that in the computer center......

I think the first computer game was probably rendezvous with rama? (it was based on the rama books by arthur c clark)....didnt have a computer between those 2 (college and playing rama at my father-in-laws house).

I think my first RPG was Rage of Mages: some sort of RTS and RPG with towns that looked alll the same made of one single pre-rendered image with a tavern, a blacksmith and a school; I like it alot.

Then I think I played Dungeon Siege 2 and Fable The Lost Chapters

Aren't those on the DS?

Anyway, on topic: I really can't remember, I played quite a lot as a kid...

Does Al-Qadim: The Genie's Curse count? I've played plenty of older games, mind, but retroactively.

I think as a kid I played more platform/side-scroll stuff, especially of the shareware variety. You know, Jazz Jackrabbit, Jill of the Jungle, Hocus Pocus. That stuff.

My first serious RPG was probably Oblivion. Before then the games I played were more shallow. Although, its difficult to find an RPG better than Oblivion.

D&D, back in the day.

Diablo II lured me into the PC RPG world.

Final Fantasy VII.

Up until then, I only played sports/action games.

Disagree. Oblivion is good, but overrated. It's definately not the most epic RPG from the last few years.

On topic, either Lufia 2 (released as 'Lufia' in most parts of the world since the first game was only released in some parts of Europe) on the SNES, or BG1 on PC.

Do point-and-click type games like Maniac Mansion count? If so, then it would be Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders on the C64. That game kicked so much ass, I actually replayed it about a year ago.

Now if we're talking console games, then FF VI, which is still the standard I base every JRPG off of, and nothing has been able to top since.
